Super tutti band sound – balanced and warm. Make sure all of the tutti rhythmic passages are absolutely together. Great work euphoniums – I like the shaping. You build carefully to Letter B, and again the tutti sound is maestoso and balanced with very good dynamic detailing. Good control to letter C. Bravo solo cornet – you can take time with all of the rhythmic groupings (especially the triplet semiquavers). You find good character in the music from letter D – lower brass intonation is not always comfortable, but the character of the music is so well curated. Bravo flugel from letter F! Good solo contributions all around.
Lower brass intonation is still a little unsettled (8th bar of F), but the tutti band work from G, is so well directed. Letter I – I really like the warmth of sound and the musical shaping, you really tell the story. (Just some intonation issues that persist).
Terrific solo work from J – super confident! K – is thoughtfully shaped, and the balance in cornets from L for me, is just right -thank you. The bar before M doesn’t quite land, but you handle the rubato section well – bravo solo euph. Musically, this is beautifully shaped (just intonation!). Letter O has a sense of joy – super detail in the ensemble – terrific. I love the style horns/ baritones after Q!. We lose a little poise after letter R however – a pity because this so enjoyable. S is full of confidence. (5 before U doesn’t quite sit together) One or two stray pitches after U, but V is tight and accurate and you build well through the next section to letter W. W – not everything absolutely lands together, but you regain control from the a tempo to Letter X. We don’t quite land the barline at Y, but there a sense of breadth tto the final bars.
Thank you so much for your performance today – so musically shaped and the tutti band sound when in full flight is warm and balanced. There were undoubtedly some intonation issues in some sections, however your soloists performed with character – and the overall storytelling was so well directed – bravo all.

Band 3: Oceans
Good start but a few niggly intonation issues,
Bar 8- nice balance and control
Bar 18- good playing, but sometimes the clarity isn’t consistent
Bar 25 -well controlled. Very effective here.
Bar 37 well done euph
bar 69- great flugelhorn
bar 86- some detail is lost, but gets better as we move through to H
Bar 100- intonation issues to start but it improves ; good control
Bar 109- good effort from soloists
Bar 113- lento; lovely style and mood but it could have been enhanced by stronger contrast in the lower dynamics.
Bar 123- cornets charge through this bar so the lower end details isn’t heard, again bar 125
Bar 135- better balance from here
Bar 146- intonation, maybe a little more pp?
Bar 148- good attention to detail Bar 159 loses clarity in the semi’s
Bar 174- maybe a little heavy in style for me but it does get a lighter as we move through
Bar 190- triangle maybe a touch too much
Bar 212- percent too loud for me 1st time and then get drowned the second time.
Bar 244- loses clarity in semi’s, and it all gets it little muddy
Bar 255- effective. Nice into X and good solid finish. Last note runs a little out of control
Overall a very musical performance. I enjoyed it very much. Moving forward, intonation, dynamics and just watch the moments of excitement where overblowing can affect intonation as well. Thank you.
